Bristol-based Ultrahaptics raises £35 million for its mid-air haptic touch technology1 min read

Bristol-founded startup Ultrahaptics that has created a mid-air haptic feedback technology has raised £35 million in a Series C funding round led by Mayfair Equity Partners, with participation from Hostplus, IP Group plc, Woodford Investment, Cornes, and Dolby Family Ventures.

Founded in 203 as a spin-out of the University of Bristol, Ultrahaptics has developed a technology that uses ultrasound to create haptic feedback in mid-air. In practice, it means that the user would get a convincing touching sensation where there’s no physical object present.

The company stated that it’s working with blue-chip customers in several verticals such as automotive, digital signage, location-based entertainment, industrial controls, medical interfaces, VR games, and AR/VR enterprise applications. It also participates in academic haptic research projects.
